A group of scientists have combined these two materials to create an ultra-low-cost motion sensor that is of great significance to health care. .
Members of the research team come from the University of Surrey and Trinity College Dublin, injecting graphene into ordinary rubber bands and maintaining flexibility after special treatment. Since graphene can conduct electricity, when these rubber bands are connected to a power source, even slight movements can be perceived by small current changes flowing through the material. According to the team, this can be used to detect bodily functions such as breathing, pulse and joint movements, which can alert the guardian when the patient's breathing or heart rate changes.
Due to its low material weight and low cost, it can be easily combined with other components to make a separate sensor accessory for vulnerable patients, such as premature babies.
