Flower seed storage

Winter is a good time to collect storage seeds. To harvest seeds, we must master the maturity and maturity of the seeds. When harvesting seeds, select early-flowering or early-mature seeds. Such seeds are sown and germinated early in the year and are robust and flowering early. If it is found that there are variations in flowers or colors, they should be harvested separately and planted separately. This will make it possible to breed new varieties. The method of harvesting flower seeds differs depending on the type of flower. Some of them can pick off the whole flower, take it after air-drying, such as cockscomb, a bunch of red, etc. The berry is rubbed by hand and placed in a water basin. Go to the flesh. Seeds of flowers under suitable conditions have a lifespan of less than one year. They are called short-lived seeds, such as gerbera, only about 6 months; within 2-4 years, they are called mid-life seeds, such as chrysanthemums and Chrysanthemum; and in the more than five years is called long-lived seeds, such as Gypsophila, cinnamon, lotus and so on. Under normal circumstances, in the tropical and subtropical regions, the vitality of seeds is easily lost. In the cold and high dry areas in the north, the life expectancy is longer. The good seed storage environment is low-temperature drying, which minimizes the physiological activity of seeds and reduces the consumption of organic matter in seeds. Different storage methods are used for different seeds. 1. Dry storage method: dry seeds are used for seeds with low water content. When storage, the seeds should be fully dried, then put into seed bags, placed in a cool, ventilated, dry place, and determine the storage location according to the storage environment, such as a bunch of red, cockscomb, etc., do not fit into glass bottles or plastic bags. In order to avoid air impermeability and affect seed breathing, the seed bag can be hung in a cool, ventilated room and kept at room temperature of 5 to 10°C. For some seeds that can easily lose their germination power (such as Strelitzia reginae and Gerbera jamesonii), they can be stored by sealed dry storage method. The seeds can be placed in a closed container and a desiccant can be added. This can be effective if combined with cryogenic storage. Increase seed life. 2. Humidity method: The wet method is applicable to seeds with high water content and is mostly used for overwintering storage. Generally, the seed is mixed with a considerable seed capacity of 2-3 times wet sand to maintain a certain humidity and placed in a cellar or underground room. Such methods can effectively maintain the vitality of the seeds, and have a germination effect, such as peony, peony, magnolia, smile and so on. In addition, the seeds of some aquatic flowers such as jade lotus and water lily must be stored in water to maintain their germination power. 3, water storage method. Some seeds should be soaked in water after harvesting, such as water lilies, etc. The water temperature is generally required to be around 5°C. Below 0°C, the seeds will be subjected to freezing injury and the buds will be affected. China Agricultural Network Editor
