A small volume mixer must also be used when using high pressure gradient elution. To ensure high mixing efficiency, the mixer can also use a small packed column. For a microcolumn with an inner diameter of 1.0 mm and a length of 200 to 300 mm, the column volume is about 100 to 150 μL; for a microcolumn having an inner diameter of 0.5 mm and a length of 250 mm, the column volume is as small as 30 μL. From this we can see that the volume of the mixer used in the gradient elution of the microcolumn liquid chromatograph is much smaller than the column volume and has a high mixing efficiency, which is very difficult for the instrument manufacturer.
