Korean researchers invent new glue to eliminate scars

The skin can protect the body from external damage. When the barrier is injured, the defense system will start to act. However, due to the poor ability of humans to regenerate skin cells, they often leave behind after injury. Nowadays, researchers have used the healing power of cockroaches to create a new type of cockroach.

When the skin tissue is cut, it quickly repairs itself and fills the wound with collagen – a protein that is a key component of normal skin tissue. However, during the repair process, the collagen fibers form scars and are not arranged in a neat interlacing pattern. Various methods of elimination have had little effect.

Adhesives can help wound healing, but this does not apply to all wounds and may cause allergies. If the wound needs to be kept moist, the adhesive will not work. In addition, decorin can also help collagen form a more tidy structure. But this kind of thing is expensive and difficult to mass produce.

Today, Korean researchers have become interested in cockroaches. This creature can hold the rock tightly in the slamming of the waves, and the medical glue needs to work in a humid environment. Therefore, the researchers combined a sputum adhesion protein with a collagen peptide to invent a new type of scar glue.

The researchers tested the mice and applied the glue to their wounds (the wound was deep, 8 mm wide) and covered with plastic to keep the healing environment moist. The rats in the control group only covered the wound with plastic and did not apply new glue.
