Chinese scientists discover new markers for early detection of liver cancer

In a recent study from Chinese scientists, researchers used volunteer serum to perform immunoproteomic screening of HCC tumor-associated antigens (TAAs). By performing protein chip analysis on 914 sera-detectable alpha-fetoprotein-containing volunteers, they used autoantibody detection to find 22 candidate tumor-associated antigens.

The researchers evaluated the expression of these antigens in HCC, chronic interstitial hepatitis, chronic hepatitis disease, and healthy controls by reviewing clinical data. The results showed that there were 12 candidate TAAs in the HCC patients and the control group. Academic differences, among which CENPF, HSP60 and IMP-2 have significant differential expression in early HCC development. And in early alpha HCC patients with alpha alpha fetoprotein negative, 73.6% and 79.3% of patients were positive for CENPF and HSP60 autoantibodies, respectively.

Early stage HCC may trigger a tumor-associated autoimmune response in the body. Therefore, the detection of autoantibodies against TAA in serum can be used as an adjunct to Î±-fetoprotein detection, which is of great significance for improving the diagnosis rate of early HCC.
